Dear Editor,

November 15-21 is “National Education Week.” It is a time to let those who devote their time to ensure our young people are prepared for a bright future. I encourage all of our citizens to find a way to say thank you to these individuals.

Today’s educators do more than teach skills.

They nurture and inspire children despite obstacles. They help students learn essential skills not always measured in testing such as critical thinking, conflict resolution, cooperation and problem solving, which helps students throughout life.

I also want to thank the support staff. Without them, the teachers could not perform their duties. Many of these individuals function as mentors to our students also.

However, you and I know that no school system is without some problems. There is always need of improvement.

We as a community must come together to solve our dropout problem.

It’s also my hope that the community will come together to as one to ensure the new Selma High School will meet the needs of all students.

Again, thank you educators, for all you do for the children.
