CCA girls open year with victory

SELMA — The Central Christian Academy girls opened the season Monday night with a 57-42 victory over Hooper at home.

Sha’nique Coleman led all scorers with 22 points, followed by Kara Rawls with 11 and Chelsea Perry with 10.

Rawls had eight rebounds to pace the Lady Warriors, while Coleman added six. Perry had three assists.

“The girls were very impressive in their first game,” Coach Darrell Walker said after his Class A team defeated AAA Hooper. “They played good defense.”

CCA takes on Autauga Academy next on Nov. 17.

R.C. Hatch 89,

Livingston 50

UNIONTOWN — The R.C. Hatch boys opened their season Friday with a decisive 89-50 victory over Livingston.

Rams coach Homer Davis, who has five senior starters, said he thinks his team will improve with experience.

“The first team is still looking for chemistry,” Davis said. “They played good defense.”

Davis said, “Everybody got a chance to play. … The seniors played really well. They have worked hard all year round.”

Brandon Battle led the Bobcats with 20 points, followed by Devonte Page and Nigel Black with 13 points each, and Demarcus Bennett with nine.

For Livingston, Roderick was top scorer with 21, while DeKendrick Jones added 12.

R.C. Hatch returns to action Friday when the Rams travel to Wilcox Central.
