Hurricane Ida is now a Category 1 storm. She is moving toward the north-northwesst near 16 mph. On the forecast track, Ida is expected to move across the Gulf of Mexico Monday and make landfall tonight.

Maximum sustained wins are 80 mph. Additional weakening is forecast, Ida could still be a hurricane when it makes landfall tonight.

Locally, a flood watch is in effect from 9 p.m. Monday through 6 p.m. Tuesday. Heavy rain is expected to spread across eastern portions of the state as Hurricane Ida move inland overnight. Rainfall amounts from 3 to 6 inches are expected. This watch includes Dallas and surrounding counties.

The greatest threat for flooding will generally be along and east of Interstate 65. Rainfall amounts from 2 to 4 inches are likely along the Interstate 85 corridor south.

Strong, gusty winds from Ida are expected across much of the state later this afternoon, lasting overnight. Winds from the U.S. 80 corridor south are expected to be 15 to 30 mph with gusts as high as 40 mph.
