Dear Editor,

The Selma City Council and the citizens of Selma voted to have an elected school board versus an appointed one. However, it appears that Councilwoman Bennie Ruth Crenshaw has decided she is going to stick with appointing one for District 4, which includes the ward she represents – Ward 7.

I was appalled to see Councilwoman Crenshaw at the Queen of Peace polling site vigorously asking voters to vote against Debra Reeves-Howard and against the bond issue. There appears to be no end to what Crenshaw will do to try to influence who will be on the Selma Board of Education for District 4.

I am a resident of Ward 7 and Councilwoman Crenshaw needs to focus her attention on improving the living conditions in our ward instead of trying to put someone on the school board who will only look out for her personal interests. I applaud Debra Reeves-Howard for speaking out against corruption in the Selma City School System and appreciate her for cooperating with the United States Department of Education and the FBI when at-risk funds were being misappropriated. Our children’s education was at-risk!

Personally, I like the; however, I am fed up with Rose Sanders, Bennie Ruth Crenshaw, Synethia Pettaway and others like them who are trying to keep Selma from moving forward. It’s time for a change and the time has come.

I encourage the citizens of Selma, especially in District 4, to come out and vote your own conviction on Dec. 8, 2009. Do your own homework on the two candidates for District 4 and do not be led by people who are only interested in their own personal gain.
