Mrs. Cora Lee Clay Edwards October 17, 2009 God decided that it was time for Sister Edwards to come home and be at rest.
Services are scheduled for Saturday, October 24, 2009 at 12:00 Noon at Brown Chapel A.M.E. Church, Rev. Tony Scott, Pastor, 410 Martin Luther King Jr. Street, Selma, Alabama 36701, officiated by Pastor JoAnn Sharpe. Burial will follow in Fairlawn Memorial Garden, Selma, Alabama under the direction of Miller Funeral Service.
Cora Lee Clay Edwards was born on April 22, 1917 to the late Mr. Robert Clay and Mrs. Fannie Hall Clay of Autaugaville, AL. She was the youngest daughter of nine children.
Mrs. Edwards confessed Christ at an early age in Freemont, Alabama. After marriage to the late Thomas Edwards Sr., they joined the Brien Chapel A.M.E. church where she served as a member of the Missionary Society and as President of the Usher Board for many years.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Fannie Clay, her husband, Thomas Edwards Sr., two sons, Melvin C. Clay and Thomas Edwards Jr., her daughter, Annie L. Edwards Harris, six sisters and three brothers.
She leaves to cherish her memory, nine children, Jesse (Carolyn) Edwards of Chicago, IL, John Clarence Edwards of Birmingham, AL, Callie E. Walker of Beloit, AL, Omega (Carrie) Edwards of Detroit, MI, Vera (Elder James) Beal of Selma, AL, Lovell (Gloria) Edwards of Birmingham, AL, Calvin (Louise) Edwards of Jones, AL, Ruby (Rev. Clinton) Peeples of Jones, AL and Freddy (Candy) Edwards of Atlanta, GA. A special granddaughter that they raised, Denise Harris (Allen) Wilson and a goddaughter, Mary Harvell.
She also leaves to cherish her memory, forty-eight grandchildren; seventy-five great-grandchildren; fourteen great-great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
