SELMA — People ranging from social workers to nurses and mental health professionals attended a symposium at the St. James Hotel Thursday and will conclude their training today.

The symposium focused on domestic violence, sexual assault and child abuse.

The participants heard from survivors of rape and domestic violence as well as experts in each field.

“The symposium allows people to get their continuing education hours so it helps them,” Sabra Agee said. “In return, their training helps all of us.”

Friday’s schedule begins with Lt. Steve Searcy on “Digital Evidence Collection and Safety Planning in Domestic Violence Cases.” Elle Shaaban-Magaña will conclude the symposium with “Social Responsibility Models and Innovative Anti-Violence Programming.”
