Baker tops in Masters Games

FLORENCE — Former Selma resident Bob Baker captured the “Golden Alumni Award” for District 9 in the Masters Games State Golf Tournament last weekend at the Blackberry Trails Golf Course in Florence.

Baker, who recently moved from Selma back to his native state of Pennsylvania, received the award as the person who exemplifies the attitude and traits of the Masters Games.

Baker has participated in the Masters Games in every year for the past 17 years and has won more than 90 medals in district and state games.

In this year’s competition, Baker captured three first-place medals.

Selma golfers dominated the event with 10 gold medals and a total of 18 medals.

Baker won gold medals in the 85 years old and over division in singles (86), doubles (R.L. Baker with 87) and pitch/putt.

Doubles — 1, Hollingshead and Reece, 63.

Singles — 3, Johnny Moss.

Doubles — 1, Bob Phillips and Seth Granberry, 72; 3, John Parris and Sonny Dubose, 73.

AGES 70-74

Doubles — 3, John Lovett and Bob Reisner, 87.

AGES 75-79

Singles — 1, Sonny Dubose, 80; 3, Bob Phillips, 84.

AGES 85 and over

Singles — 1, Bob Baker, 86.

Doubles — 1, Baker and R.L. Baker, 87.

Pitch/putt — 1, Bob Baker.
