CLANTON — The conditions were far less than ideal, but Chilton County High gritted out a 14-6 homecoming win over Selma on Friday.

After the game was delayed about an hour and a half because of inclement weather, neither team could get much going offensively.

CCHS turned it over twice in the first half, but Selma countered with eight penalties for 60 yards.

The Tigers (4-3, 2-2 Class 5A, Region 3 did struck first, when senior quarterback Taylor Hughes kept the ball on an option play and raced 78 yards for the score.

Noe Chavez kicked the extra point, and the hosts led 7-0 at halftime.

CCHS added a touchdown on a pass of about 45 yards from Hughes to Travis Helms, which was enough to withstand a late Selma score.

Quarterback Darion Alexander of Selma connected with Kendrick Woods for about 30 yards in the Saints’ only score.

Selma goes to Carver-Montgomery next week for a 7 p.m. Thursday game.
