Mary Kennedy Reynolds, age 84, of Northport, died Sept. 19, 2009, at Heritage Nursing Home. Graveside services will be 1 p.m. Tuesday at Kennedy Cemetery in Lower Peach Tree, Ala. with Dr. John A. Nixon, Jr. officiating and Magnolia Chapel Funeral Home North directing. Visitation will be tonight from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
She was preceded in death by her husband, James E. Reynolds, Sr., and her parents, Leo H. and Elma F. Kennedy.
Survivors include her daughter, Leslie Reynolds Holliday (Barry); her sons, James Edward Reynolds, Jr. and William Kennedy Reynolds (Judy Wilks); her sister, Miriam Kennedy McLean; her grandchildren, Erica H. Reynolds, Madeline Y. Reynolds, Bradley M. Holliday, Harrison W. Reynolds, Alison R. Holliday, and Jacob K. Reynolds; and her great-grandchildren, Hannah and Carson.
Mrs. Reynolds was born in Chance, Ala. She moved to Selma as a teenager. She married Jim in 1950, and they made Selma their home until 1995, when they moved to Northport. She loved books and crossword puzzles. She fulfilled a lifelong dream of writing and authored and published two family history books. She loved music and was a self-taught pianist.
Pallbearers will be sons Edward Reynolds and Ken Reynolds, son-in-law Barry Holliday, and grandsons Harry Reynolds, Bradley Holliday, and Jake Reynolds. Honorary pallbearers are Northport Baptist Church Joy Sunday School class, and Trailblazers.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Caring Days Adult Day Care.
