Joseph “Joe” Donald Britton, Jr, age 57, of Selma, AL, passed away July 27, 2009.
He is survived by his wife, Carolyn Chance Britton; parents, Donnie and Ruth Britton; son, Joseph Michael (Helena) Britton; daughter, Melissa (Chris) Vardaman; sisters, Mary Ruth (Billy) Small and Barbara (Glenn) Miles; brother and sister-in-law, Hugh and Marzette Strickland, Wheeler and Tracy Chance; grandchildren, Emily Laken Britton, Laura Kinley Vardaman, Christopher Davis Vardaman, Joseph Grayson Vardaman, Ashley Paul Small, Evelyn Robin Small and Linda Marie Garetino.
Funeral services will be Wednesday, July 29, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. at Selma Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Tommy Fancher and Dr. Bill Gardner officiating. The family received Tuesday, July 28, 2009 from 6-8:00 p.m. Interment will be in New Live Oak Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Hugh Strickland, Wheeler Chance, Glenn Miles, Mike Alexander, Bobby Roseberry, Alan Yarbrough, Melvin Lester and Bobby Sanders. Honorary pallbearers will be his coffee groups from the Downtowner. Joe was a pastor for 23 years and was currently serving at West End Baptist Church. He graduated from New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary in 1988.
Joe was a loving husband of 37 years, a loving father and grandfather. He was an avid turkey hunter. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations to be made to West End Baptist Church, 504 Cahaba Road, Selma, AL 36701.
