Meadowcraft sold

SELMA — Home Casual of Fitchburg, Wis., will purchase the Meadowcraft plant here.
Wayne Vardaman, executive director of the Selma-Dallas County Economic Development Authority said he spoke to the plant manager Andy Hewett earlier today, who confirmed the news.
Hewett did not return repeated telephone calls asking for a response. Aaron Copeland, vice president of Home Casual also did not return repeated telephone calls about the sale.
Meadowcraft Inc. of Birmingham, the Selma plant’s parent company was forced into bankruptcy by its creditors in March. A bankruptcy court in Delaware allowed the sale of the plant.
The plant has employed about 700 people making cushions and umbrellas for patio furniture.
Currently, the plant is working 75 employees. The others are on seasonal layoffs.
