Allen Russell Blackburn, 84, of Marion died July 25, 2009. Mr. Blackburn was born May 23, 1925 in Marion, AL. to the late John Allen and Jessye Thomas Blackburn.
He is survived by his loving wife: Katherine Roach Blackburn; daughters: Barbara “Joan” Warwick of Neptune Beach, Florida, Donna B. Herrmann of Pearl River, LA, Cheryl B. Gross of Greenland, N.H., Carol B. McCray of Palisade, CO. and Tanya B. Martin of Slidell, LA; and one brother: Thomas Wayne Blackburn of Morristown, TN. He also leaves behind seven grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be Tuesday July 28, 2009 at 12 Noon at Queen of Peace Catholic Church in Selma, AL. The family will receive friends Tuesday morning from 9:30 – 10:15 at Kirk Funeral Homes Marion Chapel and again from 11 – 12 noon at Queen of Peace Catholic Church. Burial will follow in Marion Cemetery. Father Carroll Plourde will officiate and Kirk Funeral Homes Marion Chapel will direct.
Active pallbearers are Donald Boyles, Barry Mitchell, Joe Aultman, and Michael Hermann Sr. Honorary pallbearers are Arthur Roach, W.W. Hammond, Joe Gibson, James Scruggs, Cecil Cannon, Floyd Cook, Vaughan Regional Medical Center doctors and nursing staff of the 2nd floor, Southland Nursing Home, Dr. Shane Lee, and Dr. Allen Foster.
