Feel free to celebrate, but put safety first

The long weekend has begun. Many people will travel the roads to long destinations or just down the road to a favorite relative’s or friend’s house.

Holidays are treacherous on the highways because people forget to buckle up or drive too fast or are intoxicated and get behind the wheel of a car.

The point is: Be safe.

If you drive, make sure you buckle up and pay attention to those around you. Defensive driving is safe driving.

Obey the speed limits. They are there for a reason. Chances are you’ll get there in plenty of time to enjoy some apple pie and ice cream if you obey the law.

And, if you decide to drink a few beers or mixed drinks, hand your keys over to someone who imbibes only in sodas or water.

It’s a long weekend. A time for celebration.

Let’s make sure everyone travels the roads safely.
