Lula Jensen

Lula Eloise Harris Jensen passed away on Tuesday June 23, 2009 at the age of 91. She was born on February 11, 1918 in Alexander City, Alabama to the late Lowell &Monka Harris. At the age of two her family moved to the Orlando area and later to Winter Garden where she completed her elementary education. In 1930 the family returned to Alexander City where she completed high school in 1936. Continuing her education she completed business training at GAB school of commerce, Macon GA. Lula also attended and worked on scholarships at Samford Univ., in Birmingham AL, Auburn Univ., in Auburn, AL., and Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Ft. Worth, TX. In 1938 she was united in marriage to Russell V. Jensen and together they served in Christian Ministry for over 49 years. They served in AL., GA., TX., and OK. in various capacities such as preaching, teaching, and as a school principal, moving wherever their Christian work led them. Lula also found time to work as a civil servant in such places as Robins AFB, Robins, GA., Craig AFB, Selma, AL., U.S. Army, Columbus, GA., Soil Conservation Service in Auburn, AL., and Ft. Worth, TX. retiring after 26 years of service. She published a book of Christian poetry in 2002 that included some unpublished works by her late husband titled “Spiritual Sparks II for His Glory.” She also published other works titled “Tell the World”, and “Pass it on, Shed Light”. Lula was inducted into the International Poetry Hall of Fame and honored with two pages on the internet, one as a poet and another for her poetry itself. She was a Baptist and attended First Baptist Church in Leesburg, and Faith Church in The Villages. Lula is survived by three sons; Ted J. and Ron V. Jensen of Columbia, MO., Imri A. (Wanda) Jensen of Leesburg, a grand-daughter Sarah Elizabeth Jensen and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband Russell. A memorial service for Lula will be held on Sunday June 28, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. in the Page-Theus Funeral Home. Friends may call at the funeral home on Sunday from 1:00 pm until the time of services. Burial will take place at a later date in the family plot at Pineview Memorial Gardens in Selma, AL.
