Mary P. Powe, a native and lifelong resident of Branch, Choctaw County, died Sunday at an assisted living center in Mobile where she had been living with her sister, Abbie Powe Sessions. She was 89. She was predeceased by her husband, Dennis D. Powe. She was a graduate of Choctaw High School in Silas and obtained a degree from the University of Montevallo and held a position in the defense industry in Mobile during World War II. She was interested in the history of Choctaw County and surrounding area and supported efforts to preserve that legacy. She was predeceased by her sisters, Abbie Powe Sessions, on March 1, 2009, and Ritchie Powe, and by her brothers, Robert, Harry and Hilton. She was a lifelong member of the Black Creek Baptist Church. Survivors include two nephews, Senator Jeff Sessions of Mobile, and Harry A. Powe, III, of Selma, and eight grand nieces and nephews. Funeral Services will be at 11:00AM on Thursday, April 30, 2009, at the Black Creek Baptist Church, east of Silas, Alabama, with the family receiving friends at the church at 10:00AM. Burial will follow in the Black Creek Baptist Church cemetery.
