Henry Watson Ivey, II, a resident of Headland, died Monday afternoon, April 6, 2009. He was 71.
Funeral services will be held at 4:00 P. M. Wednesday, April 8, 2009, in the Headland United Methodist Church with Reverend Charles W. Price, Jr. officiating. Burial will follow in the Headland Methodist Cemetery. Holman-Headland Mortuary is in charge of funeral arrangements. The family will receive friends from 2:00 until 4:00 P. M. Wednesday in the Headland United Methodist Church Family Life Center.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Head-land United Methodist Church Building Fund, 103 West King Street, Headland, AL. 36345. Mr. Ivey was born and reared near Sprott in Perry County, Alabama, son of the late Henry Trawick Ivey and Mary Cooke Ivey. He was a 1955 graduate of Suttle High School in Perry County and also received a B. S. Degree in Agriculture from Auburn University. After his graduation from Auburn, Mr. Ivey was employed by Auburn University at the Tennessee Valley Experiment Station in Belle Mina, Alabama. He moved to Headland in 1966 to work for the Wiregrass Substation where in later years he retired as the Superintendent. Mr. Ivey was also retired from the U. S.
Army Reserve with the rank of Lt. Colonel and was activated during the Berlin Crisis. He was engaged in farming all his adult lifetime and formerly served on the Henry County Board of Education.
An active member of the Headland United Methodist Church and the Curry Woods Men’s Bible Class, Mr. Ivey formerly served on the Administrative Council and in various other church activities. He was preceded in death by a sister, Valda Twilley Fenn.
Surviving relatives include his wife, Bobbie Hopkins Ivey, Headland; two daughters, Marla Ezzell, Do-than; Varina Ivey O’Neal and hus-band, Eddie O’Neal, Winston-Salem, N.C.; a son, Henry Watson Ivey, III and wife, Elizabeth Ivey, Dothan; a sister, Linda Hopkins and husband, Levert Hopkins, Selma; a brother, Val Ivey, Montgomery; eight grandchildren, Blake Ezzell and wife, Shari Ezzell, Drew Ezzell, Wes Ezzell, Ivey O’Neal, Benjamin O’Neal, Watson Ivey, Douglas Ivey and Brackin Ivey; two great-grand-children, Caroline Ezzell and Charlie Ezzell; several nieces and nephews and also sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law from the Hopkins family.
Serving as active pallbearers will be Jacob Price, Dale Armstrong, Andy Armstrong, Joey Armstrong, Brett Armstrong, Ray Marler, Shorty Johnson and Jeff Alford. Serving as honorary pallbearers will be members of the Curry Woods Men’s Bible Class and Dr. Arthur Moore, Bill DeBeaugrine, Bob Frank Williams, Joe Armstrong, Steve Harrell, Dr. Danny Nowell, Ronnie Nowell, Kenny Nowell and Benny Nowell.
