Herman Moore, Jr., 56, a resident of Selma, passed March 30, 2009 at his home. Funeral services are scheduled for 1:00 pm Friday, April 3, 2009 at Tabernacle Baptist Church with Pastor Rodney Morton officiating. Burial will follow in Fairlawn Memory Garden under the direction of J. H. Williams &Sons Funeral Home.
He was born in Selma on June 8, 1952 to the late Herman Sr. and Fannie Mae Moore.
Herman was a faithful member of Tabernacle Baptist Church where he served dutifully until death. He was a hard worker having retired from the Selma Fire Dept. with the rank of Battalion Chief. After retirement he continued to work with the Selma Housing Authority until his health failed.
Survivors include a loving wife Jean M. Moore, sons Kevin (Kenya) Moore and Kelvin (Santanya) Moore, a step-father Doc Irby, four brothers Richard, Ray (Kathy), Dennis, and Michael (Mattie); seven sisters, Patricia Allen, Denise Moore, Shirley (James) Hunter, Mary (Rayfield) Davis, Michelle (Joe) Bennett, Phyllis (Rodney) Houser, and Felicia (Ronnie) Holland; two sisters-in-law, Millie M. Turner and Susie Matthews; one brother-in-law James F. Moore; two grandchildren, a host of nieces and nephews and a special aunt Rosie McDonald plus other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by both parents, three infant siblings and two grandchildren, Shuntavia and Herman III.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday evening from 7 to 8 pm.
