John Ed (Johnny) Rankin, age 79, of Selma, died Wednesday March 11, 2009 at a local nursing home. A church service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday March 14, 2009 at Westwood Church of God with Reverend Jonathan Lambert officiating and Lawrence Brown-Service Funeral Home directing and burial following at New Live Oak Cemetery. Visitation will be from 1-2 p.m. at the church.
He was preceded in death by his father; Sam C. Rankin, mother, Rosa Rankin both of Stanton, AL, wife, Cora Chappelle Rankin, of Selma, AL, brothers-in-law, James O. Chappelle and Max Andrews, sisters-in-law, Beatrice Litzenberg and Betty Chappelle.
Survivors include his daughter; Donna James (Hank James) of Selma, AL, son; Donnie Rader (Marcia Rader) of Selma, AL, grandchildren; Anessa Rader, Justin Campbell, Jared Rader, Kendra Rader Hurst (Mickey Hurst Jr.), Caleb Rader, great-grandchild;
Dayton Rader, sister-in-law; Faye Andrews and brother-in-law; Ulysses Chappelle (Esther Chappelle). Pallbearers will be Justin Campbell, Jared Rader, Caleb Rader, Matthew Andrews, Mickey Hurst Jr., Bobby Girlie Jr. and Bill Lolley.
