Edna Wilkinson

Edna Barnes Wilkinson, age of 90, of Birmingham, passed away on March 3, 2009. She was born September 15, 1918, in Brewton, Alabama and moved to Selma shortly after. She resided there until moving to Birmingham in 1997. She retired from the State of Alabama Department of Children’s Rehabilitation Services and was a long time member of the Church Street United Methodist Church. Graveside funeral services will be held on Friday March 6, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. at New Live Oak Cemetery in Selma, AL with The Reverend John Cruse officiating and Lawrence Brown- Service Funeral Home Directing. Edna was preceded in death by her husband, Sydenham Moore Wilkinson, her parents, Mr. and Mrs. David D. Barnes and many be-loved sisters and brothers-in-law. She is survived by her daughters, Dora Hamlett of Selma, Mary Whitley and husband William of Hoover; grandchildren, John Whitley, of Hoover and Mary Elizabeth of Hoover.
Edna was devoted to her family, her church and to the Lord and she lovingly gave herself to others. The family wishes to express special thanks to the staff at St. Martins in the Pines and to New Beacon Hospice for the compassionate care and attention they provided to Edna.
