Selma’s Wallace College to host Ron Polk

Wallace Community College Selma’s baseball team will play host to American Baseball Hall of Fame coach Ronald Polk.

Polk, a longtime head baseball coach at Mississippi State, will speak at WCCS at 7 p.m. Thursday in the administration building.

Polk was a head college coach for more than 35 years. He has coached internationally and has been inducted into several halls of fame. He is the winningest coach in school and SEC history in all sports with 1218 wins in 31 years.

One hundred and seventy eight of his former players have signed professional contracts, and 21 of these players have played in the major leagues.

Polk is one of only three coaches to have coached three different schools in the College World Series in Omaha, Neb. He currently ranks seventh on the all-time wins list in Division I college baseball. His teams have won five SEC championships, including four SEC Tournament championships. His teams have made it to the NCAA Tournament 21 times and have reached the College World Series eight times.

Polk has authored two textbooks, “The Baseball Playbook” and “The Baseball-Softball Playbook.” He will have “The Baseball Playbook” for sale at half price for $15.
