Wasden linked to position on Chizik’s staff at Auburn
Wasden linked to position on Chizik’s staff at AuburnNew Auburn coach Gene Chizik’s search to complete his staff is rumored to include Troy assistant head coach Shayne Wasden.
But according to Troy sports information director Ricky Hazel, Chizik has not contacted Wasden.
“I don’t know anything about it,” said Hazel. “As of (Monday) he has not.”
Troy athletic director Steve Dennis refused to comment on Wasden.
Kirk Sampson, Auburn’s assistant athletics director, could not be reached for comment.
Right now, Wasden may have his mind on other matters. The Trojans traveled to New Orleans on Monday to prepare for their matchup with Southern Miss in Sunday’s New Orleans Bowl.
“If there’s anything to it, nothing’s going to happen until after the bowl,” said Hazel.
Wasden is a 1987 Meadowview Christian graduate and played at Auburn from 1987-90. He was named to the 1988 All-SEC freshman team.
In 11 years as a high school head coach at Georgiana, Opp and Eufaula, Wasden compiled a 91-34 record. He left the high school ranks to join Troy coach Larry Blakeney’s staff in 2004. Blakeney was an assistant coach at Auburn during Wasden’s playing days.
Wasden’s duties with the Trojans include coaching outside receivers and coordinating special teams.
