Elizabeth Corr

Elizabeth Allison Corr, age 91, died Tuesday, October 28, 2008. She was born in Abingdon, Virginia on June 5, 1917 and was the daughter of Dr. Fred Allison and Elizabeth Kelly Allison of Auburn, Alabama. Libba attended Agnes Scott College and graduated from Auburn University in 1937.
She spent many years in Birmingham, Alabama, where she raised her family and was an active member of St. Mary’s on the Highlands Episcopal Church, the Junior League of Birmingham, and numerous other organizations. She was also an active member of the Selma, Alabama community for 25 years before returning to Birmingham in 2002. Libba was an individual of inexhaustible kindness: her devotion to her husband, family and friends was unconditional and selfless.
She was predeceased by her husband, Robert Thornton Comer, Jr., and her daughter, May Brunson Comer. She is survived by her beloved husband of 31 years, Mark Stroud Corr, Jr.; daughters: Allison Comer Murray (Fred), Catherine Comer Friend (Eddie), son: Robert Thornton Comer, III (Jennifer), all of Birmingham, Alabama; brother: Dr. Fred Allison (Clara) of Nashville, Tennessee; stepchildren: Mark S. Corr, III (Cathy), Marshall A. Corr (Robin), and Irene Flack; grandchildren: Allison Manley (Duncan), Virginia Phillips (Will), Elizabeth Murray, Comer Crawford, Kate Agricola (Stephen), Robert Comer IV (Laura), John Comer, and Matt Comer: she is also survived by 6 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
The family is deeply grateful for the compassion and care given by Betty Leslie, Alicia Leslie, and the staff of Kirkwood by the River.
A private family graveside service will take place in Auburn, Alabama on Thursday afternoon. A memorial service will be at Kirkwood by the River at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, October 31st.
