Amateur and professional photographers should dust off their lenses and take to the streets of Selma to catch the perfect angle showing Selma’s historic architecture.

A photography contest by ArtsRevive will feature the historic architecture in Selma with the theme: “Through My Eyes … Selma’s Historic Architecture.”

Ann Thomas, an ArtsRevive member, said this marks the contest’s second year.

“The idea behind the photography contest is to get people to realize what wonderful things we have here in Selma and to get them to look at it with new eyes,” she said.

Last year, Karen Cammack won in the adult division. The theme was “Through My Eyes … The Riverfront.” Cammack’s photograph gave a different perspective of the Edmund Pettus Bridge.

Katherine Neel, an elementary school student from Auburn, won the student’s division with a landscape portrait taken at Old Cahaba. Neel participated as she visited her grandparents, Thomas said.

The photographs for this year’s competition must show all or some part of one of Selma’s historic buildings. The photos must include architecture, but may also contain anything in the surrounding landscape.

Prizes are awarded in both divisions. Those prizes include: first, $100; second, $50; third, Riverfront Market Day T-shirt and People’s Choice Award, Riverfront Market Day T-shirt.

Entries must be at least 8-by-10 inches, matted and clear wrapped or framed. No digitally enhanced photos are eligible. Photos should focus on the local beauty of the area. Unusual shots are encouraged. Photos may be in color or black and white.

All entries must be submitted by Oct. 1 to the Real Estate Gallery, 706 Broad St., Selma. The gallery’s hours are from 9 a.m. until 4:30 p.m.

Entries must be labeled on the back with: title of photo; photographers name; photographer’s telephone number; category (adult or student) and school (if applicable).
