The Morgan Academy volleyball team played like it had unfinished business.

The Lady Senators took game one from Lee-Scott Academy then cruised to a 3-0 match victory, 25-20, 25-16, 25-7.

Morgan barely took game one, but the close score was not indicative of what was to come.

“We were very nervous coming into this match. I was nervous, the girls were nervous,” said Morgan volleyball coach Jennifer Moore. “You could see it coming into this first match. There was a lot of anxiety out there on the floor.”

The nervousness dissipated quickly. The Senators breezed through games two and three.

The team lived up to Moore’s expectations, but showed some minor errors.

“We’ve got some defensive flaws to work on,” said Moore. “It’s easily fixable. They’re going to be just fine.”

April Clark and Anne Woodruff combined for nine kills, and setter Summer Pugh led the team with 11 assists.

Meadowview-Hooper

The Meadowview Christian Trojans held a three-team tournament that included Hooper and Southern.

Meadowview lost the best-of-three series with Southern 2-0. They kept game one respectable at 25-13, but their youth and inexperience showed through in a 25-8 game two loss.

“We performed all right,” said coach Tim Burton. “We’ve just got a lot of learning to do.”

Hooper rubbed salt in the wound with a 3-0 win — 25-13, 25-16 and 25-7 — in a best-of-five series.
