Just when you think the water is safe.

No, this isn’t another shark tale, but true stories of commercial fishing in the turbulent Bering Sea off the coast of Alaska by Selma native Paul Nichols.

Paul came home recently, and we talked him into writing a blog about his experiences at sea in the Northwest. It’s called “A Fisherman’s Journal.”

He is currently a deckhand on the fishing vessel Baranof, working seven to eight months a year, fishing for king crab, opilio crab, and cod.

When he’s not landing pots or sorting crab, he enjoys traveling to new places, playing his guitar, or throwing a tennis ball to his yellow lab Bare.
