Even the Europeans seem interested in whether Alabama will land another automobile producer.

On Saturday, Automobilwoche, a German version of Automobile Week, quoted an unnamed senior Volkswagen officials as saying Alabama is the site for its next North American assembly plant.

The board will ratify the move July 15 and make the announcement July 21.

This could mean as many as 5,000 supplier jobs in Alabama, Georgia and Tennessee in addition to the 2,000 original jobs.

While this appears as good news for the state, some caution is necessary.

Nobody has signed on the dotted line.

Until then, this automobile plant is no done deal.
