Due to a limited number of teams, a spot in the sub-state tournament is guaranteed for both the Dixie Boys and Dixie Junior Boys baseball teams.

So why bother playing the district tournament this week? A lot is still at stake.

The Dixie Boys and Junior Boys play in district tournaments in Prattville on July 7-9. Both tournaments will use a best-of-three format as each is comprised of only two teams &045; Selma and Prattville.

All six (if necessary) games begin at 6 p.m.

The tournaments will determine seeding in the sub-state tournaments, as all participating teams have already qualified.

The district champions begin sub-state play with a one-seed label and first-round bye.

Though they recently scrimmaged, neither Selma team has played an organized baseball game since June 15. Anderson believes the layoff’s effects will be minimal.

The Dixie Boys and Junior Boys sub-state tournaments take place July 18-20. The Dixie Boys play in Thomasville and the Junior Boys play in Eufala. The winners of both tournaments advance to state tournaments in Selma to face the north-state champions July 25-27.

The Dixie Boys state champion advances to the Dixie Boys World Series in Covington, Ga. The Dixie Junior Boys state champion advances to the Dixie Junior Boys World Series in Junior Dixie Boys World Series – Bluffton, SC.
