Evans declined to give further details at the club’s meeting Thursday night.

The school took applications to fill the position recently vacated by former head coach Brian Montgomery. Evans said the search would continue for at least the state-required minimum of 14 days.

The S-Team Booster Club is a nonprofit organization of interested parents and contributors who voluntarily assist in raising funds for Selma High’s athletic programs.

This was the booster club’s second meeting since its inception. The selection of officers marked the meeting as the club’s first official meeting.

“It was great to see parents come out and want to support our children,” said Evans. “That’s the whole goal of this club – parents involved in their children’s future.”

The group of about 30 parents and school supporters elected officials Thursday. They elected Mel Harris president; Felicia Hayes as vice-president; Shanda Moore and Claire Weatherspoon as co-secretaries; and Ann Blevins as treasurer.

Evans placed emphasis on raising funds for all athletic teams and students. He discouraged raising money only for the more popular sports.

The school colors debate was put to rest. Teams will retain the blue and gold scheme for the 2008-09 school year. Evans emphasized the colors’ tradition and ease of keeping them as the primary reasons.

Evans explained S-team membership packages in detail. The levels are a general membership, all-access individual membership, and an all-access family membership.

All-access memberships confer special privileges such as separate entry gates, special parking and other amenities.

Athletic banquet expenses will be trimmed down. The school will no longer hold banfor three or fewer sports at a time. The athletic banquet will be an annual event and will include all Selma High athletes.
