Jai Miller was so new to the show, he didn’t even have a bio on the Florida Marlins’ Web site.

In a matter of hours, he was going from Triple-A to the majors and then back down.

Miller’s first taste of the big leagues was a strikeout as a pinch hitter in the eighth inning of a 7-1 loss to Oakland. It was the end of a “long day.”

“I got ahead 2-0 in the count, then my third base coach (Bo Porter) told me to take a pitch,” Miller said. “I took a good pitch, then the count went to 2-2, and I had to battle with two strikes. I felt good in the box, though.”

The Marlins gave Miller the call late Saturday night to replace injured Alfredo Amezega.

Just hours after his first and only plate appearance thus far, Miller was back in Albuquerque to report to the Marlins’ Triple-A team.

Florida is making room to add outfielder Josh Willingham to the active roster. Willingham was hitting .341 with six home runs before a back injury sent him to the disabled list in April.

“My family wanted to come, but when I called it was about 12:30 back home,” Miller said. “With it being a day game, it would have been hard.”
