Late run propels Lauderback

Lauderback Telephone Service’s Ben Jones scored on a passed ball in the bottom of the seventh inning to beat Cougar Chevron 11-10 in the 11-12 Dixie Youth Baseball “B” division championship game Friday at the Complex.

Cougar Chevron’s Jamarius Shanks walked and scored on Letarious Wright’s RBI triple in the first inning.

In the bottom half of the inning, Lauderback Telephone Service’s Shadrick Turner got hit by a pitch. Mark Jones reached first on a throwing error and scored Turner. Jay Fletcher’s RBI double scored Mark Jones, and Fletcher stole home later in the inning to give his team a 3-1 lead.

In the top of the second, Cougar Chevron’s Alex Waites walked and then scored on a passed ball.

Lauderback Telephone Service’s Earnest Gunn tripled and scored on a passed ball in the bottom of the second.

Cougar Chevron did most of its damage in the third inning as it took a 7-4 lead. Three walks issued to Jesse Hogue, Dusty Burge, and Shanks loaded the bases with nobody out. All three scored when Wright put the ball in play and a throwing error allowed him to reach third. Coleman Smith’s sacrifice bunt scored Wright. Waites walked and later scored on a passed ball.

In the bottom of the third, Lauderback Telephone Service’s Turner tripled and scored on Ben Jones’ RBI single. Turner then pinch ran and scored on an RBI single.

Lauderback Telephone Service scored four more runs in the bottom of the fifth. Turner and Ben Jones each singled. Turner scored twice in the inning as a pinch runner. Joe Gibson walked, and Mark Jones reached on a fielder’s choice. Gibson scored on a passed ball, and Mark Jones later stole home, making the score 10-7.

Cougar Chevron’s Burge, Shanks, and Wright all scored in the top of the sixth to tie the game at 10.

Gibson shut down Cougar Chevron in the top of the seventh, and Ben Jones doubled and scored on a passed ball in the bottom half of the inning to pick up the win for Lauderback Telephone Service.

Gibson was the winning pitcher, and Wright took the loss for Cougar Chevron.
