Closing arguments begun in Langston case

TUSCALOOSA — Closing arguments are under way in Tuscaloosa in the federal criminal trial of the former director of the Alabama Fire College. A prosecutor asked jurors today to convict W.L. Langston of theft, conspiracy, money laundering and fraud.

Scrushy agrees to talk to attorneys

BIRMINGHAM — Former HealthSouth CEO Richard Scrushy has agreed to travel to Birmingham from a federal prison in Texas to be interviewed by attorneys in a civil trial concerning accounting fraud at HealthSouth. Scrushy’s attorney filed a motion in federal court in Birmingham Tuesday saying his client no longer objects to the order.

Blue Dogs endorse Parker Griffith for 5th Congressional seat

MONTGOMERY — A coalition of conservative Democrats in Congress have endorsed Democratic state Senator Parker Griffith of Huntsville in the race for the 5th Congressional District seat. The Blue Dog Coalition also said it is considering endorsing Montgomery Mayor Bobby Bright in the race for the 2nd Congressional District seat.
