Tony Long is leading his opponent Robert Bryant in the special election held Tuesday.

At 8:25 p.m., officials at city hall said Long had 934 votes and Bryant, an attorney, 668 votes.

Long was elected mayor in 2004, but Bryant contested the election. Long had to step aside until the special election determines the winner.

Officials also said they had 130 provisional ballots to go through. A provisional ballot is used to record a vote when there is some question in regards to a given voter’s eligibility.

The winner of Tuesday’s special election will serve only a couple of months before the term ends.

The city will hold another election in August.
