Staff report

Selma Public Schools officials don&8217;t expect buses drivers to call in sick again Monday.

Several drivers staged a sick out on Friday, leaving officials relying on employees, such as coaches and other staff with certified driver&8217;s licenses to serve as replacements.

Interim Superintendent Verdell Lett-Dawson declined to talk about the sickout, saying her office would handle the matter internally. She would not give a reason why some bus drivers wouldn&8217;t run their routes Friday.

Nobody missed school Friday, but some students were inconvenienced by the incident.

Kayla Chappell, a Selma High School 10th grader, uses the school bus to catch a ride from the high school to Wallace Community College. She participates in the early college program. On Friday, she was late.

Boykin said Edgewood Elementary School officials had to cancel a field trip to the Montgomery Zoo.

Students from Byrd Elementary School walked to Bloch Park for a field trip, instead of riding the bus.
