Selma is a long way from any ocean, but a movie will bring the city closer to one.

The film takes place in 1965 Alabama and follows the journey of a young girl named Lily Strickland, played by Lily Matland Holly, who is trying to find the ocean after losing her father and having no way to say goodbye.

Holly owns a home in the Summerfield area. Scenes were shot at the Edmund Pettus Bridge, Sturdivant Hall, the Selma City Jail, along Broad Street and near the Downtowner Restaurant.

The film has won several awards at film festivals across the country and has received a Kids First endorsement as well as the Dove Foundation Seal of Approval. The film has earned the highest possible ranking of five Doves, which rates movies on family appeal.

Jere Rae-Mansfield, managing partner with Monterey Media, described &8220;When I Find the Ocean&8221; as a &8220;heart of America film&8221; with themes that will resonate with moviegoers across the country.

Monterey Media could not confirm whether the film will be booked at theatres in the Montgomery and Prattville area, but did say there will be a screening of the film in Selma.
