Annie Pearl Yelverton

Yelverton, Annie Pearl (Hoggle), age 82, a longtime resident of Uniontown, Alabama, passed away on April 20, 2008 in Birmingham, Alabama.

Annie Pearl was born at home on 12/23/1925 in Greensboro to parents Oscar and Pearl Hoggle.

She grew up with seven brothers and sisters on a country farm. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Albert Thurman Yelverton, to whom she was married for 59 years, and her son Albert (Al) Thurman Yelverton Jr. of Waco, Texas. She was also preceded by her two brothers, James Hoggle of Marion and Stanley Hoggle of Selma.

Survivors include Deborah Yelverton Carlson and her husband Greg of Pelham, two grandsons, Mark Yelverton Jefcoat and wife Mandy of Monroeville and Edward Stewart Jefcoat and wife Jodie of Troy; great grandchildren, Mark Alan Jefcoat and Ella Ann Jefcoat of Monroeville; and Frankie Jay Jefcoat of Troy; two sisters Ruby Johnson of Sawyersville, and Betty Elmore of Northport; three brothers Polly Hoggle of Uniontown, O’Neal Hoggle of Selma, and Bobby Hoggle of Tuscaloosa; along with numerous nieces, nephews and a host of good friends.

Visitation will be Thursday at Uniontown United Methodist Church from 9:45 a.m. to 10:45.

Rev. Jim Waters and Arthur Noland will officiate at the graveside funeral services at 11:00 a.m. at the Rosemont Cemetery in Uniontown, Alabama. All will be invited to the church for lunch with the family.

Cornelius H. Thompson

Retired SFC Cornelius H. Thompson, Clarksville, Tennessee, a native of Selma, Alabama passed April 18, 2008 at Veteran’s Administration Hospital, Nashville, Tennessee. Graveside services will be held Saturday, April 26, 2008, at 12 noon at Johnson Family Grave site, Hwy 22, Dallas County. Arrangements are being handled by Phillip White’s Julia L. White Funeral Home, Uniontown, Alabama.

Kelvin Kenyada Bender

Kelvin Kenyada Bender, 24, of Orlando, FL, died April 15, 2008 at the Orlando Regional Medical Center. Services are scheduled for April 26, 2008 at 12:00 p.m. at the Ellwood Community Church officiated by Reverend Gary Crum. Burial will follow in Isabella cemetery under the direction of Lewis Brothers Funeral Home Inc.

Survivors include his parents, John Newberry and Gwendolyn Bender; three sons, Jaylen White (Orlando, FL), Kelvin Bender Jr. (Orlando, FL), and Calvin Roberts (Orlando, FL); three daughters, Kayla Bender (Orlando, FL), Keaira Bender (Orlando, FL), and Tamarri Roberts (Orlando, FL); two brothers, John Newberry (Selma, AL) and Quinton Snow (Alaska); two sisters, Sharonda Bender (Orlando, FL) and Roshetta Newberry (Selma, AL); grandmother, Bessie Newberry (Selma, AL); and grandfather, Sam Bender (Selma, AL).

Pallbearers will include friends and family.

Linda West Hamilton

Linda West Hamilton, 55, a resident of Selma, passed April 23, 2008. Final arrangements will be announced later by J. H. Williams & Sons Funeral Home.

Mr. Johnnie Edwards

Mr. Johnnie Edwards, 55, of Selma, Alabama, died April 21, 2008 at Baptist South Medical Center. Funeral arrangements will be announced at a later date by Miller Funeral Services Inc.
