Dallas County posted a 10-0 shutout in softball action Wednesday afternoon.

In the top of the first, Selma’s Karlynn Savage led off the game with a single to center. Chelsea Sturdivant ripped a would-be single to right, but a heads-up play by Mckensie Crawford to quickly throw out Sturdivant at first proved to be a big play in the inning.

Courtesy runner Rodneshia Vinson motored around on a Whitney Denson grounder to score the first run of the game.

Tiffany Ellis then reached base on an error followed by walks to Avery Mott and Crawford, which forced in a second run.

The Hornets added one more run in the inning when Albertina Miller reached on a fielder’s choice as Ellis scored.

The Lady Saints tried to mount a rally as Savage and Strudivant led off the third with infield hits, but Daniels got the next two batters swinging and got a batter to fly out to center to end the Saints’ last threat of the day.

In the bottom of the fourth, Crawford again walked, followed by consecutive hits by Miller, Ross, Keneasha Jefferson and Daniels, which plated four runs to push the lead to 7-0.

The Hornets added three more runs in the fifth to end the game. Daniels gave up three hits while recording nine strikeouts in the win.
