Art is in the eye of the beholder goes the adage.

In this respect, scrap booking is one of the fastest growing hobbies and is moving into the new age realm of art.

Scrapbook art takes an evocative theme and surrounds it with artistic arrangements and layers of objects. It consists of photographs around which a theme develops and words &8212; journaling &8212; that explain and expand the theme.

In celebration of National Scrapbook Month, Shirley Ross, an independent consultant with Close to My Heart, and team members Barbara Osburn and Tammy Wilson will sponsor an art show, The Art of Scrapbooking, May 3, at the Selma Performing Arts Center.

A reception May 3 will open the show to the public. The art will remain on display during the month.
