FLORENCE, Ala. (AP) – TVA and the Department of Energy could announce as early as Monday a plan to develop a nuclear waste recycling center. The center could demonstrate a technology many experts believe can address the growing problem of spent nuclear waste. Energy Department spokeswoman Angela Hill says DOE is working a cooperative arrangement with TVA to share information, but details aren’t finalized yet.

ANNISTON, Ala. (AP) – An Alabama soldier stationed at Fort Bragg, who was shot April 12th in a robbery outside a nightclub in Fayetteville, N.C., has died from his injuries. Jamie Smith of the Fayetteville Police Department says 22-year-old Specialist Sergio Sanchez of Oxford, died early yesterday from complications due to a gunshot wound in the neck. He was shot during a robbery. Smith says the shooting remains under investigation.

TUSCUMBIA, Ala. (AP) – A sheriff’s deputy has filed a complaint asking the Colbert County Commission for nearly $6,000 worth of personal items that were destroyed when the county’s canine unit vehicle caught fire and burned. The lawsuit came after the commission on Tuesday discussed repaying deputy Donivan Hagwood for the items or at least a percentage of the cost to cover depreciation.
