DCHS wins big against Maplesville

PLANTERSVILLE – It didn’t take much time for the Dallas County softball team to get back on its feet Tuesday afternoon.
The Lady Hornets (11-5) scored four runs in the third and five more in the fifth to go on to a 13-4 victory over Maplesville.
Maplesville jumped out to an early 1-0 lead on the Lady Hornets in the first inning when Kelsey Langston drove in Katlyn Freeman on a single.
The Hornets quickly responded in the bottom of the first with Albertina Miller leading off with a double to left. Seven of the next eight Lady Hornets reached base on either a walk or hit en route to a 4-1 lead at the end of the inning.
On the day, the Hornets showed a complete package offensively by getting four bunt base hits and by pounding out extra-base hits for a total of 11 hits.
Kimberly Ross led the Hornets with a single and a triple. Whitney Denson, Cassie Daniels, Mckenzie Crawford, Avery Mott and Tiffany Ellis all collected at least one hit apiece in the effort.
Cassie Daniels picked up the win with a five-hit, nine-strikeout performance.
Langston picked up the loss for Maplesville.
