George L. Jones II has been named managing editor of The Selma Times-Journal.

Jones&8217; duties, which include the day-to-day management of the newsroom, begin immediately, according to Leesha Faulkner, executive editor of the newspaper.

Jones, 26, is a Dothan native and graduate of Troy University. He began in the news business as a senior in high school where he worked at a TV station in his hometown.

Jones has been sports editor of the Times-Journal the past two years, during which time he has managed coverage of local high school and collegiate sports.
