After eight years as the football coach of Southside, it looks likely Christopher Raymond’s tenure has come to an end.

LeFlore has hired Raymond to be its new coach, according to the Press-Register. The decision is awaiting final approval from the Mobile County school board.

The Panthers finished last season with a 3-7 record and have not reached the playoffs since 2005. Raymond compiled a 35-45 record as coach of the team and led them to two postseason appearances. He also served as athletic director while with the school.

Raymond, who could not be reached for comment, is a 1998 graduate of LeFlore.

He inherits a team that has had struggles of its own in recent years. The Rattlers finished last year’s campaign with a 3-8 record and were 27-33 in six years under former coach Greg Quinney.

Raymond’s final year with the Panthers was marred by a fight with three students – who were not athletes – that led to legal proceedings.

Two of the students, Clenton English and Glenn McDaniels, both 18, pleaded guilty to assault III charges and were sentenced to a year in jail and 24 months probation.
