Don’t cut the trees

JACKSONVILLE &045; Three Jacksonville residents have won their fight to keep Alabama Power co. from cutting down pecan and cherry trees in their neighborhood. The utility said the four trees interfered with power lines and needed to be removed, but a judge ruled that the company could only trim the trees, not cut them down.

WASHINGTON &045; Biologists and other scientists say you can blame global warming for earlier and earlier springs. Researchers are finding tree buds emerging days or weeks earlier than they were 30 years ago. They say the same thing is happening with other plants and animals. Scientists have found that the spring “green-up” north of the Mason-Dixon Line has been arriving about eight hours earlier each year since 1982.
