Rashad Jones and Niah Mason, both of Selma, were indicted on a federal charge of possession of counterfeit money.

The indictment alleges that on or about Jan. 7, 2007, Mason passed to Jones counterfeit federal U.S. currency in denominations of $100 to purchase merchandise from GameStop, which is located on Kimble Road next to Wal-Mart.

The charges state 11 federal notes were passed.

No other identifying information was available.

The indictment returned by the federal grand jury is only a charge, and the defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty.

The indictment against both men was made public Feb. 28, according to records in U.S. District Court Mobile.

The court file does not show a date for arraignment for the two men. They have not pleaded in the case.

The case was investigated by the U.S. Secret Service. It will be prosecuted by assistant U.S. Attorney Vicki M. Davis.

The case has been assigned to U.S. District Judge William H. Steele.

If convicted, Jones and Mason would face a maximum penalty of 20 years in prison, a $250,000 fine and three years supervised release after serving the prison time.
