Staff Reports

Polls were open for two and a half hours Tuesday, and it had been a long day already.

As of 9:30 a.m., the mayor&8217;s office reported that things were going smoothly. That was after some trial and error and an &8220;act of God&8221; that resulted in damaged ballot machines for the bond issue vote in Selma.

Voting machines were delivered between 5 and 6:30 a.m. Some were damaged while being transported and others were dropped.

Poll workers called in to report they would not show up to their voting stations, and some did not call at all. Perkins said many were outraged at the city council&8217;s decision last Monday to redistribute workers to different polls.
