The Lurleen B. Wallace women hit the gas pedal late in the first half and kept on to spoil Wallace-Selma’s homecoming Saturday.

Kendra Brooks, one of five LBW players in double-figure scoring, poured in 21 points and paved the way for a 74-59 win.

Alicia Young added 13 for the Saints, Jessica Freeman scored 12, Ashley Kidd had 11 and Clarissa Corbett had 10.

Sheleta Banks was the high scorer for the Patriots with 13 points. Keshara Moore had 10, and Sivon Pugh had nine.

Joy Jones hit a 3-pointer and allowed WCCS to close the gap to 24-21 with a minute and a half left in the first half.

The Saints held WCCS scoreless the rest of the way and were ahead 31-24 going into the break. They began the second half on a 14-7 run to go up 45-31.

Later in the game, Brooks hit a free throw to put LBW up 63-44, its largest lead of the game.

Pugh hit a 3 to cut the lead to 13 with 2:47 left, but the Patriots’ run didn’t gather any more steam.
