Homecoming night didn’t feel so special for the Wallace-Selma basketball team Saturday night.

The visiting Lurleen B. Wallace Saints dominated inside and ran away with an 83-59 win.

Andrew Lucas led LBW with 23 points, and Jeremy Williams scored 17.

Sidney McNear scored 15 to lead WCCS, and Alfred Smith scored 13.

The Patriots relied heavily on the 3-point shot, and it worked in their favor for a while. They hit five triples in the first 12 minutes of the ball game and trailed 28-21. The second half was a different story. WCCS all but abandoned efforts to score in the paint and didn’t hit a shot in 14 attempts from outside.

Even with their cold hand, the Patriots were able to pull close to LBW late in the ball game.

Smith picked off back-to-back passes that led to transition baskets and sliced LBW’s lead to 57-47 with 11:59 to play.

The Saints stopped the bleeding and piled more and more onto their lead the rest of the way. They were on top by 26 with about three minutes left.
