The Sunday afternoon weather front not only destroyed homes north of Selma, it took out the police department and fire department radio transmitters.

Steve Tidwell, public safety communications director, said Tuesday the fire department had been returned to its regular frequency, and they were reprogramming police radios Tuesday afternoon.

&8220;We don&8217;t know exactly what caused it,&8221; Tidwell said. &8220;Even if the public safety building itself had been destroyed, we did the same thing, which was switch to an alternate frequency.&8221;

Dispatchers have answered calls to dispatch fire and police.

The city fire and police departments have alternate frequencies, which are used for football games and other major events like the Bridge Crossing Jubilee.
