A Selma man who was shot three times Saturday night has been transferred to a Birmingham hospital, where he is in critical condition.

George Moore was shot in the chest and leg with a .22 caliber handgun, as he sat on the front porch of 1601 Maple Street. He told police he was visiting a friend.

Moore was in the UAB Medical Center intensive care unit, a hospital spokesperson said Monday.

No arrests have been made in the shooting, which has one area resident concerned.

Steve Burcham said crime in the Selmont community is out of control, and he&8217;s been victimized.

Police seemed to bear out Burcham’s assessment of the area.

Walker said Moore did not know who shot him, or why someone would want to shoot him.

Burcham, who said he has been living in the area for the last 30 years, claims he&8217;s been victimized so many times he doesn&8217;t bother calling the police. He said drug users in the area steal anything they can to sell for drugs.

The area off Old Montgomery Highway has seen its share of shootings.

The night of Oct. 30, 2006, one man was killed and two others injured when a Selmont man opened fire with an assault rifle outside Riverside Drive apartment complex.

Sanchez Manuel is awaiting trial on murder and assault charges in connection with the shooting.
