Selma denied Demopolis of almost everything Saturday night.

The Tigers were within striking distance of Selma all game, but their offense in the paint stalled, and they shot 19 percent from the free throw line.

The Saints (26-1) took advantage and rolled to a 47-28 win.

Despite the big victory, Harris said his team wasn’t quite as sharp as it normally is. The Saints came into the game ranked No. 5 in 6A and are now on a 25-game winning streak.

“We came out a little sluggish tonight,” Harris said. “We were lucky to win the ball game. The girls have had a good run in the regular season, but it’s time to play postseason ball now. We’ve told them what they’ve done at this point is zero. Overall, they’ve done a good job, not only representing Selma High, but the city.”

Lateasha Witherspoon and Richelle Jones both scored 10 to top Selma. Kamesha Strong added nine.

Jasmine Hardy was held to seven points and tied with Valissa Sams for the team lead in scoring.

Three times in the third quarter Demopolis (19-3) scored baskets that got them within 10 points, but they came no closer.

The Saints will play host to the area tournament Thursday and will face Stanhope Elmore at 7:30 p.m.
