When area school administrators go out this spring to recruit new teachers they should be better prepared.

A two-day workshop held by Dallas County Schools is set for Monday and Tuesday at the Carl Morgan Convention Center. They’re expecting 140 superintendents, administrators, principals and staff to take part.

So when recruiters take to highways in search of new teachers they need to be better prepared, McKenzie said. This week’s workshops are designed to equip them.

Dr. James H. Stronge, heritage professor in the Educational Policy, Planning and Leadership area at the College of William and Mary in Williamsburg, Va., will be the featured speaker. Stronge is the author of Qualities of Effective Teachers, and numerous other articles.

Zella Haywood, supervisor in charge of professional development with Dallas County schools, said the workshop will have personnel from Bullock County, Bibb County, Selma City, Dallas County, Perry County, Wilcox County and Lowndes County in attendance.

Principals will attend Monday’s session, and Tuesday’s session is for central office administrators. Stronge is expected to speak on a scientific process for selecting teachers.

McKenzie said school systems have to be prepared with &8220;an ample supply&8221; of applicants to choose from.
